5th Grade African Shields

Fifth grade students studied the art of traditional African shields.  Looking at several examples, they quickly identified common characteristics.  They chose a neutral color of construction paper for the basic shield shape.  They then chose 3 more colors as accent colors.  They were to add both organic and geometric shapes and use symmetry.  This was a very easy, but effective art project.

5th Grade Line Designs

Fifth grade studied line, line patterns, and line's impact on shape.  They first started out with a looped line across the page and then filled in the spaces created by the loops with a variety of line patterns.  They had the choice to color their work in black and white, or a 3-color limited palette.
